Essex Labour Strongly Opposes Further Cuts to Children's Centres.

Seventeen years ago the Labour Government opened its first Sure Start centres marking its commitment to giving every child the best start in life. Labour recognised that children learn more in the first 5 years of their life than they will in the rest of their life's but that children had very unequal opportunities , Sure Start was aiming at addressing those inequalities. Subsequent elections saw Tory politicians notably David Cameron promise that he would retain Sure Start investment and we now see that those promises were false. The current consultation would see Sure Start centres now called Children's centres cut to the bone, just two years ago we had 86 children's centres across Essex, in April 2014 they reduced to 37 and if the current plans go through there will be just 12 fully ofsted registered centres left across Essex. This will be a skeleton service and virtually back to where Labour started 17 years ago, the Tories are stripping back public services and destroying our Children's future.
Your Labour Councillors urge you to take part in the consultation (a link to which can be found below), and to make your views on the cuts known.
