Essex Labour's tribute to MP, Jo Cox.

The untimely death of Jo Cox MP and the brutality of the act have shocked not just our nation but the world.

Murder is unacceptable under any circumstances but for a democratically elected representative to be struck down whilst carrying out her responsibilities and duties to her electorate is shocking beyond belief.

That the victim was a person who transcended politics through her remarkable contribution to her community, her country and the wider world only adds to the sense of shock, loss and outrage.

It is with a sense of immense sadness that I have requested that a book of condolence be opened to allow the residents of Essex to pay their respects to a lady who few of us had ever met but, through her sacrifice, has touched the world in what must become a very positive way.  We owe it to Jo Cox and her family to make our world a better place in her memory.

Cllr. Ivan Henderson

On behalf of the Labour Group of Essex County Councillors

County Councillors across Essex have been paying respect to fallen MP Jo Cox, Including Colchester Mayor, Julie Young:

" We held a silent vigil in Colchester to mark the tragic death of the wonderful MP Jo Cox. A inspirational person who died helping her constituents"
