The Essex Labour group is concerned by further proposed cuts to children’s centres across the County

A consultation started on Monday the 15th of February is looking at combining existing services with the children’s centre’s programme, creating ‘family hubs’. This will see the number of centres available to local residents fall to just one per district.

This is after saving measures introduced in 2013 saw the number reduced from 86 to 37. These proposals, if successful, would see the number drop again to 11.

‘This is an appalling attack on services that give our children the best start in life. It completely goes against promises made by the conservatives at the last election’

  • Cllr Julie Young, Leader of Essex County Labour group.

Your Labour Councillors urge you to take part in the consultation (a link to which can be found below), and to make your views on the cuts known.

You can also attend a number of drop-in sessions taking place across the county:

• March 9, 6.30-8.30pm – Carousel Children’s Centre, Chapel Hill, Braintree

• March 11, 9.30-11.30am – Berechurch Children’s Centre, The Ormiston Centre, School Road, Colchester

• March 22, 6.30-8.30pm – Clacton Library, Station Road, Clacton
